About this rate
The Sarafa rate is declared daily by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association, and bazaars across the country follow it. It is the reference price of pure (24K) gold; jewellery adds making charges on top, and shops deduct for impurity when they buy gold back.
22K gold is 91.7% pure, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%. When the association declares a 22K rate we show it as declared; 21K and 18K are worked out from 24K by purity and labelled so. One tola is 11.6638 grams.
The international parity estimate converts the world spot price (US dollars per troy ounce) at the dollar rate. The Sarafa rate usually sits a little above or below it because of import duties, local demand and the open-market dollar. We show both, clearly labelled, so you can see the gap.
