How is the petrol price set in Pakistan, who announces it and how often?

Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are worked out by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism and published on OGRA’s website; since 21 July 2026 OGRA has posted a dated price publication on most days of the week, so the price can now change almost daily.

PeriodHow OGRA published petroleum prices
Until February 2026Notification twice a month, effective the 1st and the 16th
March to mid-July 2026Weekly notification
Since 21 July 2026Dated price publication on most days, plus a weekly notification

OGRA’s own list of notifications shows how the schedule changed: until February 2026 petroleum prices were notified twice a month, effective the 1st and the 16th; from March 2026 the notifications came weekly; and from late July 2026 daily price publications were added alongside the weekly notification.

When a change is announced, the Petroleum Division’s statements attribute it to developments in the international market, including changes in Platts rates, premiums and incidental charges. OGRA publishes the Platts reference data on its website. Government levies and taxes are part of the final pump price.

Prices at a pump can differ a little by area; OGRA also publishes district and pump-wise oil prices. LPG is priced separately, by OGRA’s monthly notification.

Aaj ka Rate records every new petrol, high-speed diesel, kerosene and light diesel oil price with the date it took effect. The current price is on the petrol price page, not here, because it can change on any day.
